The Faces of the Exiled is a documental series taken in the asylum center (asylmottak) in Ås. In Norway there were around 40.000 persons with political asylum and this amount doesn’t include the people that are in the applying process. During my first year in Norway I was in contact with them because they were my classmates in the Norwegian course. During this period (one and half year), I became part of this group; I understood the complicity of their situation. How life is when you have to leave your country, your family and perhaps you can never come back. The scars of violence are present all the time in their new life in Norway.
When I took the pictures in the asylum center, I wanted to show how these people were living and how they were dealing with the everyday life, in a country that is protecting their life, but at the same time they don’t belong here and they can’t understand the culture. And to see how they reproduce the entire universe they left behind in every room
