Welcome to Reality - a Storytelling project about seeking asylum, shown at the opening of the group exhibition Entry Deniedy Katrine Meisfjord and Malin Lennström-Örtwall in cooperation with storytellers
The project Welcome to Reality presents personal stories based on people’s experiences with Norwegian and European refugee policies. Through this project we are investigating the effects these policies have on local communities and on people´s lives. The storytellers are bureaucrats, asylum seekers, people who are employed to deal with asylum seekers and volunteers working with asylum seekers and the policies surrounding them. Most of the storytellers present their own stories in the gallery space at the exhibition opening, two of them are anonymous. The project is supported by Bergen kommune and Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond.
The first storyteller is a psychologist working in a part of town where a large amount of the population is affected by asylum policies. She tells us about a normal working week, and what kind of situations her patients and she has to deal with.
